Iraq eyes development of country''s aviation infrastructure
Dubai, Oct 23 (PTI) Iraq has reportedly earmarked an estimated USD 50 billion on airport development projects in the country over the next few years and is scheduled to add new 55 Boeing and Bombardier aircrafts into its fleet soon, organisers of a conference have said.

"The presentations by Iraqi authorities will provide an overview of business opportunities available at the airports in Iraq, assesses challenges and obstacles with a view to mitigating them, leading to business opportunities for all," Raj Menon, General Manager of Arabian Reach, the organisers of a proposed conference, said.

Urvinder Madan, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Maharashtra Airport Development Company Maharashtra is also scheduled to attend the conference.

In a major expansion plan of its aviation sector, the delegation from the country will give its presentation in the proposed Emerging Markets Airport Suppliers Conference (EMASC 2011) from December 11-12 to attract foreign investors and give them an insight of its aviation sector apart from fetching them necessary and reliable local know-how.

The delegation, which includes Director General of Iraq Civil Aviation Authority Kifah Hasan Jabbar apart from other senior aviation officials, will make a presentation on country''s plan to spend USD 150 billion on development of infrastructure related to airports, sea ports and railways in the country.
Delegates are likely to discuss modalities related to the expansion of Iraq''s national carrier Iraqi Airways as well as country''s airport facilities.
Talar Faiq - Erbil International Airport, Ali Salhi - Kirkuk International Airport, Ali Jawad - Baghdad International Airport will join the Iraqi delegation and do an exclusive airport expansion projects presentation about the respective airports.
Special focus will be on the ongoing and new transportation projects in cities of Baghdad, Basra, Dohuk, Karbala, Salhaddin province. Expansion of Umm Qasr seaport and country wide development of railway network will also be highlighted.

Iraq is scheduled to add new 55 Boeing and Bombardier aircrafts in to its fleet soon.

The emerging markets of China, Russia, India, the Middle East, and Africa are forecast to be among the growth leaders in airport infrastructure development spending over the next few years, it said.

The summit will feature some key decision makers and experts from emerging markets, who will present the major airport projects under construction and expansion in these markets.
